Are you on Mac or Linux? I wasn't aware a .rar wouldn't work, I've now added an extra .zip file for download.

I can’t believe I got this game when it was still free
The game was never free, but we did release a demo that contained the first 2 characters. During the initial Kickstarter we planned to release more characters for free in order to drive votes on Steam Greenlight, but we were getting absurd numbers of downloads and if we were lucky single digit votes on Steam, and releasing more free content felt like a slap in the face to the paying fans so we stopped after character number 2.
